I'd like to recommend this paranormal mystery to anyone who likes that kind of story. The book is available from BARD, and is about a graduate student who gets wrapped up in finding out about Deliverance Dane and her book for her thesis. There's also romance and a bit of psychological fiction in it.
So who was Deliverance Dane? Interludes tell the story of a cunning woman named Deliverance and her daughter Mercy, who mix tinctures and the like for those who seek them out. But it's just about the time of the Salem witch trials...what will happen to Deliverance Dane when the teenage girls start picking names of people to hang?
I'm certainly not going to give away the story's ending, but I'll tell you, it's one of the few books that has sated my thirst for its story. It's not that I got tired of the book, but instead I didn't yearn for a sequel, as I do for many books. It rounds out perfectly with a "happily ever after" ending.
Five stars!

I second the recommendation. This is a really absorbing, excellent book!
It's a bit quieter, but I also loved The House of Velvet and Glass, by the same author. Katherine Howe. setting is WWI era Boston, and portrays characters and time period accurately. It's all historical, no modern day component to this story. The main character's mother and sister were lost on the Titanic, and the story follows the remaining family in the years after.
hmm, might check the book out. :)
